44 Manitoba Nods for Western Canadian Music Awards

Posted on June 9, 2014

Proving itself once again to be a front runner in the Canadian music industry, Manitoba has garnered 44 Western Canadian Music Award nominations, including 16 for Manitoba Film & Music supported projects.

Snagging three out of five nominations in the Aboriginal Recording of the Year category are MFM supported artists Federal Lights and Desiree Dorion, as well as Manitoban Cassidy Mann. Manitoba acts also dominated in the Francophone category with four nominations including MFM supported artist marijosée, along with Chez Willi, Lulu et le Matou and Trésor Ezoman.

“Our province punches well above its weight in the Canadian music industry with more bands per capita than any other province,” said Carole Vivier, CEO & Film Commissioner at Manitoba Film & Music. “These nominations prove we have the quality to match the quantity. Our music industry is something every Manitoban should be proud of. It has helped shape our culture and is part of what makes our province vibrant and unique.”

Other MFM supported nominations include Madame Diva’s “Viva la Diva!” in the Children’s category, Del Barber’s “Prairieography” and Royal Canoe’s “Today We’re Believers” in the Independent Album category, Jeff Presslaff’s “The Complete Rebirth of the Cool” in the Jazz category, Imaginary Cities’ “Fall of Romance” and Royal Canoe’s “Today We’re Believers” in the Pop category, Sweet Alibi’s “We’ve Got To” and The Bros.
