MFM Supported Projects Illegal Eater and Bunks Nominated for Canadian Screen Awards

Manitoba Film & Music and On Screen Manitoba would like to congratulate all Manitobans and Manitoba companies nominated for Canadian Screen Awards. The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television announced all nominees on January 13, 2015.

 

The MFM supported project Illegal Eater is nominated for Best Lifestyle for Talk Program Series and Best Writing in a Lifestyle or Reality/Competition Program or Series (Chris Charney). The series follows musician and foodie Steven Page as he uncovers some of the tastiest, illegal food in unlicensed underground venues. Illegal Eater was produced by Manitoba company Farpoint Films and Middle Child Films for Travel & Escape (Blue Ant Media).

 

The Inferno Pictures made-for-television film Bunks is also nominated for two awards including Best Dramatic Mini-Series or TV Movie and Best Direction in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series (Tibor Takac). The film is a comedy for young audiences about a summer camp overtaken by zombies. Bunks was produced by Inferno Pictures and Fresh TV Inc. for Disney XD Canada (DHX Media Ltd.).

 

Manitoba company Frantic Films also had two projects nominated for awards. A DORE To Winnipeg (Part of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival) was nominated for Best Direction in a Variety or Sketch Comedy Program or Series (Adam Brodie, Dave Derewlany) and Best Writing in a Variety or Sketch Comedy Program or Series (Adam Brodie, Dave Derewlany, Jon Dore). The comedy Meet the Family was nominated for Best Picture Editing in a Comedy or variety Program or Series (Aden Bahadori).

“The Canada Screen Award nominations reflect the depth of experience and capacity of the Manitoba media production industry from production companies to crew to creative talent,” said Nicole Matiation, Executive Director On Screen Manitoba. “Congratulations to all the Manitoba nominees.”

 

Manitoba’s own Adam Beach was nominated for the Shaw Media Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for his work on Arctic Air. This home-grown talent achieved international fame through his roles in Flags of Our Fathers, Cowboys and Aliens and other high-profile films.

 

Manitoban Shawn Pierce was nominated for Best Original Music Score for a Series for his work on Haven. Pierce has scored many Manitoba projects including The Pinkertons, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil and many others.

 

Congratulations as well to CBC’s Janet Stewart on her nomination for Best Local News Anchor and to The JUNO Awards (hosted in Winnipeg in 2014) for their multiple nominations.
