Manitoba Projects and Companies Land an Impressive 17 Canadian Screen Award Nominations

Manitoba Film & Music and On Screen Manitoba would like to congratulate all Manitobans and Manitoba companies nominated for Canadian Screen Awards. The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television announced all nominees on January 17, 2017. The winners will be announced at the awards shows held March 9 – 12, 2017.

Manitoba companies and projects were nominated for an impressive 17 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series for the Merit Motion Pictures documentary My Brain Made Me Do It and Achievement in Music – Original Song for Matt Schellenberg’s “Draw Blood” featured in the MFM-supported Manitoba film Lovesick from Eagle Vision Inc.

The Manitoba-lensed comedy series Sunnyside was nominated for two awards including Best Photography and Best Writing in a Variety Program or Series. The Manitoba producer of Sunnyside is Buffalo Gal Pictures.

The Manitoba-based company Frantic Films landed an impressive nine nominations for their series Baroness Von Sketch Show and Still Standing. These include nominations for Best Variety or Sketch Comedy Program or Series and Best Factual Program or Series respectively, among others.

Other nominations include Best Short Documentary for the Manitoba project this river (National Film Board of Canada), Best Writing in a Factual Program or Series for Polar Bear Town (Merit Motion Pictures), Best Original Interactive Production Produced for Digital Media for Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson’s Séances (National Film Board of Canada) and Best News Special for Decision Manitoba (CBC).
