Call for Participants: Safer Studios | Respectful Workplace Training

Posted on August 9, 2024

Deadline: Thursday, August 15 at 4 PM

Building a culture of respect in the workplace is fundamental to creating a safer, more equitable music industry for everyone. The music sector has many different kinds of workplaces, many of which don’t fit the “standard,” including studio spaces. As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting informed  spaces work in the audio production community, Manitoba Music, Manitoba Film & Music (MFM), and Women in Music Canada are hosting a free in-person session on respectful workplace training for studios in Manitoba.

Facilitated by respected HR expert Natalie Bell, this session will offer training instruction, case studies and group discussion in a small group setting. There will be 18 spots available, including nine specifically for MFM accredited studios.

This session is a step in addressing recommendations from the GEAR UP Taskforce’s report, Collectively Supporting Change: Addressing Gender Inequity in Audio Production in Manitoba, which can be reviewed at www.manitobamusic.com/gearup

Taking the Safer Studios training is now a requirement to be a Manitoba Film & Music accredited recording service. The training will be offered twice annually, and current accredited recording services are required to have a staff person participate in the training within two years (by July 31, 2026). New accreditation applicants will have to participate in the training within one year of their application being submitted to Manitoba Film & Music.
