Manitobans at TIFF

All the Wrong Reasons, co-produced by Manitobans Phyllis Laing and Monique Perro, will receive its world premiere at TIFF as part of the Canadian Features in the Discovery category.

Anatomy of Assistance (trailer), written by OSM member John Titley and A Time is a Terrible Thing to Waste by Leslie Supnet will both screen at TIFF’s Short Cuts Canada.

Following his cheeky documentary How to Start Your Own Country, director Jody Shapiro returns to the Festival with Burt's Buzz, a vibrant and incisive portrait of Burt Shavitz, founder of Burt's Bees.

Buffalo Gal Pictures is an independent film and television production company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. President Phyllis Laing and producer Liz Jarvis have developed and produced many challenging and diverse projects by creating collaborative relationships with creative talent and building successful co-production partnerships.

John Titley is an award-winning screenwriter and recent graduate of the Canadian Film Centre Writers’ Lab. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba John received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba (Advanced Major in Film) while writing for low-budget features (SPOILED). John has worked as creative producer at broadcaster Citytv and won a 2013 Signature Award for his work on morning show Breakfast Television. Writing primarily for film & television, John’smost recently produced scripts include two short films,the social satire ANATOMY OF ASSISTANCE and the dark comedy COLD FEET. He is currently working on his feature comedy THE LEGEND OF SEAN.

Leslie Supnet is a Toronto based artist, originally from Winnipeg MB whose drawing, animated and film work aims to represent sincerity, lived experience, and the multiplicity of human emotion. Her moving image works have screened at various festivals, including the Images Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Image Forum Festival, Oberhausen Short Film Festival, European Media Arts Festival and LA Film Forum.
