Changes to our Music Funding Programs

Posted on May 7, 2014

MANITOBA FILM AND MUSIC (MFM) is pleased to announce the following changes to our music funding programs. These changes have been made in consultation with the Manitoba music industry and MFM’s Board of Directors in order to better assist career development through streamlined programming.

The following program changes took effect April 1st, 2014.

NEW PROGRAM ANNOUNCED:

With consultation and feedback from key members of Manitoba’s music community, MFM is proud to introduce the Music Business Development Fund. This program is designed to support culturally relevant and commercially viable music companies in Manitoba by investing in new or expanded business activities. Funding is available for initiatives that are not artist specific, but that are intended to increase the capacity of the companies that contribute to the economic growth and sustainability of the music industry in Manitoba.

RECOUPMENT ON PREVIOUS MFM-FUNDED ALBUMS REDUCED:

Given that traditional compact disc sales continue to contract across all genres, MFM will reduce the required recoupment percentages for eligibility to subsequently funded albums. Artists who apply to MFM will now be required to recoup the following amounts in order to proceed with ongoing recording projects:

Amended Recoupment Thresholds

2nd CD Project – Must recoup 10% on previous CD

3rd CD Project – Must recoup 15% on previous CD

4th CD Project – Must recoup 25% on previous CD

5th CD Project – Must recoup 40% on previous CD

NUMBER OF ELIGIBLE TOUR DATES INCREASED:

In response to overwhelming demands on the Recording Artists Tour Support Program, MFM has increased the minimum number of eligible tour dates to six. All tour dates must take place outside of the artist’s city of residence and be within a reasonable time frame as to consitute a tour.
