MFM CEO Carole Vivier to Receive Order of Manitoba

Posted on May 13, 2014

Manitoba Film & Music’s CEO & Film Commissioner Carole Vivier has been selected as an inductee into the 2014 Order of Manitoba. The province’s highest honour will be presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, The Honourable Philip S. Lee, along with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall to 13 Manitobans who have made a significant impact in their field. The ceremony will take place on May 21 at the Manitoba Legislature.

“We are extremely proud of Carole. Her years of dedicated service to Manitoba’s arts and culture industries make her a very deserving recipient of this honour,” said Alana Langelotz, Chair of the Manitoba Film & Music Board of Directors. “As she takes her place in history among those appointed to the Order of Manitoba, we reflect on how she has heralded the growth film and music in our province. From co-chairing the JUNO Host Committee to attracting high-profile Hollywood movies to shoot in Manitoba, Carole has helped carve our province’s identity and culture. She is a leader and an innovator.”

Other inductees for 2014 include Olympic curling champion Jennifer Jones, Canada’s former ambassador to the United States Allan Gotlieb, Truth and Reconciliation Commission member Doris Sarah Young and other activists and leaders.

During Vivier’s 25 years with Manitoba Film & Music, she has helped herald the growth of the province’s media production and music industries into major economic and cultural entities. Under her leadership, Winnipeg has hosted the JUNO Awards twice (in eight years) and has been chosen as the filming location for high profile films such as Capote, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Aloft, Heaven is for Real and many others. Manitoba is known as having the highest film tax credit in Canada and for being one of the best places in the country to live and work as a musician, due mainly to the provincial support available. Vivier has also served on numerous local and national boards including the National Screen Institute, the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and others. In 2012 she was a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
