Announcing improvements to our music programs, effective April 1st

Publié le 26 mars 2012

Winnipeg’s Imaginary Cities have received funding through MFM’s Marketing, Level 3 Sound Recording, and Video Production programs.

Manitoba Film and Music is pleased to announce the following improvements to our music funding programs. These changes have been made in consultation with the music industry and MFM’s Board of Directors in order to better assist Manitoba musicians in their career development through streamlined programming.

The following program changes will take effect April 1st, 2012.

Level 2 Music Production Program For Commercial Release Only

Currently, the Level 2 Music Recording Program allows artists to apply to produce recordings of 6 songs or more, to be used for promotional purposes or to be released for sale through any and all mediums. Due to heavy demand on the programs, Manitoba Film & Music will remove “for promotional purposes” from its Level 2 Music Recording Program guidelines, making it necessary for all recordings under this program to be a minimum of 8 songs and released commercially for sale.

Maximum Funding For Level 2 Music Production Program Increased To $10,000

In an effort to allow for greater flexibility within Level 2 Music Recording budgets, as well as to continue raising the quality of production by Manitoba Artists, Manitoba Film & Music will increase its maximum investment allowable in the Level 2 Music Recording Program from $7500 to $10 000 per project.

Maximum Investment In Level 2 Music Production Program Reduced To 60%

Recognizing increased demands and limitations on funding available for Music Recording programs, it is necessary to make choices to maximize potential funding across as many platforms as possible. In response to this, Manitoba Film & Music maximum contribution to the Level 2 Music Recording Program will now be reduced from 75% to a cap of 60%.

Level 1 Music Production Program Broadened To Include “Commercially Released Single”

Over the past several years, online retailers such as CD Baby and itunes have facilitated a return to the sale of “single” songs. In keeping with this, Manitoba Film & Music will amend its Level 1 Music Recording Program guidelines to include the production of music for promotional “demos”, as well as for the production of commercially released “singles”.
